I got a chance to playtest Cowboys With Big Hearts again on Saturday at Ice Station Nerdly. It went surprisingly well! Here are the 54 cards:
CWBH Cards
I printed out the card content onto Avery 5263 labels and stuck them on color-coded index cards. The finished version will be 2.5″ by 3.5″ playing cards. Here’s us playing:
CWBH playtest
One player had never played a roleplaying game before that day. She was fantastic, as you might expect. The game is a weird mix of extremely heavy, old school GM authority and completely player-driven action. I think it may end up being tricky to get right, but I may be mistaken. The new RPGer said “This is really fun. I want to run this at PAX east next spring” to which I said “OK!”.

looks awesome. this is the first i’ve heard of it… where does one find out more info on this game.

(it makes my index card game look much less awesome and far less colorful.)

Thanks, Eric! I’ll add you to the Google doc with the rules. I’ve been keeping it a little under the radar.

Well, thank you! Geek cred, woot! (Also, gratuitous shot of my Palm Pre up there, woohoo!)

I had an absolute blast about this game, and have been explaining to people who would never normally be interested in an RPG game, and all have them have said “That sounds like so much fun!”

I think the premise and the story are really great, and just with a little trimming, the game will be a big hit.

I’ve gone from being slightly nervous about playing RPG’s for the first time to totally wanting to run this game myself for other players. That’s a serious compliment! :)

Hey Judy! I’m so glad you had a good time. Your Avram Cohen kicked ass. If anything struck you since playing, I’d love to hear your thoughts on how I could improve or tighten the game. All the feedback I got immediately post-game is under consideration, but sometimes stuff leaps out later on.
