Part of our annual planning is attendance at Big Bad Con, which is an amazing event that we find very rewarding. It’s a welcoming, enthusiastic community where Bully Pulpit finds eager players, makes new friends, and forges long-lasting business contacts. Plus it’s really fun.
This year we all had full plates. Jason and Steve ran and played games, had meetings with other designers, did interviews, and appeared on panels. Kristine, Jeri, and Sovanny Vorn were there and we got some work done together, showing off secret prototypes in person.
As a staff member of BBC for many years, Kristine proudly donned the yellow bandanna for the first time to work the check-in desk at the POC Meet and Greet. BPG was well represented at the event and, as always, we made some exciting contacts.
Jason was in playtest mode, offering Zhenya’s Wonder Tales seven times and giving away some prototype decks, as well as a new Desperation playset called The Wind Farm (more on that soon). A bunch of larps had been waiting for the sort of crowd Big Bad Con always delivers, and he facilitated eight runs of various one-hour space larps from the Six Space Games collections (which will soon be the Nine Space Games collection) and The Audition. It was the world premiere of Skelf Team Six (designed with Lizzie Stark), The Clinic (more soon), and Left Behind (more soon as well!).
Steve also ran playtests of new material for Fiasco and Desperation, and with Jeri and old BPG pal Alex Roberts, facilitated a big room full of Star Crossed using the Bayshore Landing scenario from the new Love Letters supplement.
Our friend and BPG Emeritus Jenn Martin ran her in-development Desperation hack, Aldsworth 1811 to great acclaim. Hannah Gravius spooked everyone out with The Skeletons. Jerry Tidwell offered eight hours of Night Witches, and apparently across both sessions only a single natural-born Soviet Airwoman survived. We salute their courageous sacrifice.
Indie Press Revolution (through their local partner Three Dog Quest) and Heart of the Deernicorn both had booths carrying our products, which seemed to be selling well. We’re grateful for the support from both vendors!
We love Big Bad Con and its organizers and Rangers, who work tirelessly (and sometimes thanklessly) to create an event that feels magical in its smooth operation and unique, delicious vibe. Trust and believe that we will be back!
